Bristol's Mr Benn makes his debut on NICE UP! records in anticipation of his full length album later in the year. Having released a number of acclaimed singles over the years such as the massive "Long Time" featuring Black Twang and "Police" with Blackout JA, as well as remixes for people such as Monkey Mafia, Tenor Fly & Horace Andy, 2012 really is Mr Benn's time to shine as he steps out of the studio with his very first album, featuring guest vocals from some of the biggest reggae/dancehall artists out there alongside a few of tomorrow's rising stars. Toddla T's main hype man & dancehall don Serocee steps up on this, a heavy reggae/dubstep style track which he takes even deeper with tales of poverty, police brutality & torture, but managing to triumph over all - possibly one of his most introspective vocals to date.
Remixes come from fellow rising star King Yoof whose "Back To Hackney EP" on Sub Slayers set the bar for the jungle-breaks or '140 jungle' sound - which he showcases perfectly here with some chopped amens, heavy bass & old school flavour. Next up Tomb Crew give the track a UK Funky style re-dub, lacing it with a haunting melody line and screwed up vocal chops. Finally JStar takes the vocal deeper into the dub and twists out a digital stepper to wreck up any soundsystem.
